  • Great Northern Pictorial Volume 3 (Strauss)

Volume 3 in this series focuses on the Great Northern's passenger trains during the streamlined era, when the railroad rapidly and successfully transformed its fleet into an attractive and service-oriented line. This is not a pictorial (although it is packed with photos) -- it is a fascinating and detailed history of how the GN changed its passenger service offerings from stuffy cars with no air-conditioning and an ageing fleet to the dazzling Vistadomes on the Empire Builder that set the standard for the other lines. The book covers from roughly 1947 until 1970, when Burlington Northern took over. Illustrated with a mix of black and white as well as colour photos. With schematic diagrams of the cars, timetables, and numerous vintage advertisements. With decorative end papers showing system maps.  Very Good Condition. 152pp. 1993, Four Ways West Publications. Laminated pictorial boards have slight shelf wear. Inside in very good condition. 86-F0QP-PUOM      Was £40 now only £32. Limited Stocks
