• Mansions on Rails. The Folklore Of The Private Railway Car (Beebe)

More enjoyable nonsense from "gourmand, wine aficionado, and  noted boulevardier" Lucius Beebe. An epic work showcasing the luxury train cars of the day and the personages who rode them. (He himself owned two so he was the perfect author for this.) Illustrated throughout with black and white photos and schematic diagrams of the cars. Tipped in full color frontispiece of The Virginia City, one of Beebe's cars, done up in a style described as "Venetian Renaissance baroque." With Appendix of Pullman business & private cars built at Pullman 1882 through 1930 as well as a list of private cars handled by the Florida East Coast Railway in 1894.  350 rare photographs and 6 colour paintings reproduced.  DW has losses, rubbing and sunning to spine. DW now protected by transparent removable film cover. Price clipped. Red cloth boards with gilt lettering. Corners bumped. Pages clean and bright. Spine cracked. READING COPY ONLY.  Howell-North. 1959 1st Edition.  382pp. WUJ-4AI-LD5
