Volume 1 in this fascinating history is packed with photographs of articulated steam locomotives, and focuses on the railroads that used them. The book is divided into geographical sections (Northwestern, Southwestern, Rocky Mountain, Midwestern, Central Basin, Southeastern and Northeastern railroads) as well as lumber and mining railroads, industrial switching and tourist railroads, and Canadian and Mexican railroads. Each section contains an alphabetical list of the railroads, describing each line's use of articulateds and illustrated with a comprehensive mix of black and white, sepia and colour photos. In the very rare Volume 2, the articulateds are segregated first by "type" & then by wheel arrangement. This classification demonstrates the chronological development of particular wheel arrangements, regardless of the railroad which operated such locomotives. Dimensional comparisons are thus made very easily & one can quickly perceive how each wheel arrangement grew from the 1st to the last one constructed. Again, numerous B&W photographs. 1979 and 1991 Sundance Publications. VG. HB. Vol 1 #424/signed, corners bumped. Both volumes VG. No Acetate cover to either volume. 416pp and 256pp NOS-ART-V12
