  • The Hiawatha Story (Scribbins)

Describes the original, and highly successful trains and the replacements of them, and all the others that grew from them, eventually reaching to the West Coast of America. Very well illustrated, with photos of both the locomotives, both steam and diesel, coaches with some interior views of some of the coaches, and the unique Beaver Tail, and Skytop observation cars, and the advertising literature for the trains themselves. There are no drawings of the coaches or locomotives in this book. Through its many black and white photos and conversational text, "The Hiawatha Story" traces the history of these Milwaukee Road streamliners through their glory in the 1930s to the general fading of US passenger service in the 1960s. The reproduction of the photos and text is excellent. Second Printing 1971 Kalmbach Publications. Hardcover with dw. Acceptable condition, dw in poor condition with small losses and tears. Page edges tanned. 267pp. CI-1DD3-4746
