  • Across the Canadian Shield. CNR Main Line Railroading in the mid 1950s (Lill)

Covers railroading in remote northern and central Canada. The book is a compilation of both colour and black and white railroad photos (very high quality) taken by Robert Wanner, a US Air Force serviceman (and railfan) who was stationed at the Mid Canada Line Early Warning Radar Station in Armstrong, northwestern Ontario during the 50's. Text in the book is also ample and high quality and is provided by Alan Lill (and apparently also by Wanner as well). It covers CNR operations, both passenger and freight across the Canadian Shield (which includes not only southern AND northern Ontario but extends as far west as Winnipeg) during the 1950's. A superb book, now out of print which includes table of contents, maps, rosters, color and b/w photos, line drawings, appendices and bibliography.  1998 CN Lines Special Interest Group. Laminated boards. VG. 208pp.  CT-V1MV-WV16
