  • Pacific Extension Ottawa-Lake Nipissing. The Building of the Canada Central Railway (Tasse)

Short but well-done history of the Canada Central Railway. Frightened that the Brockville and Ottawa Railway would divert traffic from Ottawa, the merchants and citizens worked to have the Legislative Assembly authorize a railroad through Ottawa to the Ottawa Valley. The political struggles between the B&O and the proponents of the Canada Central are clearly explained as is the effort to obtain financing over the years as the line was slowly built towards Pembroke and Lake Nipissing, the eventual merger with the B&O and finally the amalgamation into the Canadian Pacific. Illustrated with black and white photos and several maps. 1994 The Smith Falls Railway Museum.  Card covers. VG. 40pp. ZN-DVLP-W019
